Today we had a visit from lovely friends and supporters of ours, Marc and Tracy from KK Graphics and Signs. Marc and Tracy have recently gotten involved with supporting the charity and produce our car stickers for us (these can be found and bought in our online shop). Today they appeared at our door with 2 apnea monitors they have very kindly bought and donated.
These monitors are very simple to use, just attaching to the baby’s nappy, but are very effective and bring so much peace of mind. If baby stops breathing for more than 15 seconds, this is classed as an apnea, the monitor will vibrate to shock them into taking a breath. It will then alarm and continue to alarm louder and louder if baby is still not breathing, meaning attention and help will be bought to them quickly. These apnea monitors cost anywhere between £80 and £100.
Sammi Leach knows only too well how little sleep a parent of an SMA baby can get, for worrying all night that their baby will stop breathing. Sammi’s grandson Alfie passed away from SMA Type 1 and she recalls how her daughter didn’t sleep well for worrying about something happening through the night while she was sleeping. Sammi has also very kindly donated to the Ally Cadence Trust today so that we can purchase an apnea monitor in Alfie’s memory.
Thank you so much to Marc, Tracy and Sammi. Your support means a lot and will help another 3 families get a much easier nights rest.
